INJECTION MOLDED MAGNETS
PLASTIFORM® brand injection molded magnets combine several unique properties as follows.
- High magnetic output is coupled with excellent physical strength.
- Molded magnets are more chip resistant than other types making handling easier on production assembly lines.
- The molding process inherently yields a net shape part usually eliminating finishing operations. The material is easily machinable for those circumstances requiring it such as prototyping and sampling.
- Production magnets can be either simple in shape or of complex geometry.
- The binders and magnetic alloys utilized are capable of a wide range of application temperatures from below -40°C to above 180°C.
- Injection molded magnets are available using ferrite, neodymium-iron-boron, samarium cobalt, alnico, and combinations of magnetic materials. These combined materials are called "hybrid" magnets.
- Binder types include several Nylon formulations and PPS.
- Insert Molding is the injection of magnet compound over, inside or against an existing component resulting in an assembly. This can eliminate secondary operations and reduce total system cost.
COMPRESSION MAGNETS
PLASTIFORM® brand compression bonded magnets have the following advantages.
- Higher magnetic strength than injection molded magnets. This is due to a higher volume fraction of magnetic powder.
- Most appropriate for relatively simple geometries due to limitations of the compaction process.
- Net shape is achieved in the compaction dies.
- Application temperatures of below -40°C to above 165°C are available.
- Compression bonded magnets are available using neodymium-iron-boron, samarium cobalt, and combinations of magnetic materials. These combined materials are called "hybrid" magnets.
- The binder used for compression bonded magnets is an epoxy which is solvent resistant to normal industrial and automotive fluids.
FLEXIBLE MAGNETS
PLASTIFORM® brand and Flexmag Industries flexible bonded magnets have the following advantages.
- Broad range of magnetic strengths to meet application requirements from 0.5 to over 1.6 MGOe.
- Magnetic materials include ferrite, neodymium-iron-boron and combinations of magnetic materials called "hybrids".
- Binders include nitrile rubber, Nordel, natsyn, polyethylene, and others to meet specific customer needs at competitive pricing.
- Available in continuous strip and sheet with a variety of magnetic pole widths and patterns.
- Magnetic strip available in extruded profiles and with coatings and adhesive backing strips, cut lengths, individual pieces or spooled on a paper substrate.
- Sheeting is available in continuous rolls or slit to length, with vinyl coatings of many colors and types.
